does anyone knows a diagram of a tattoo machine coil.specifying it's number of turns, direction of turns,?
gauge of the wire, thickness of the core., etc.,

admin answers:
I usually count how many times i unwind and then repeat with new wire. I take a sample of the wire of the coil to electronics store and get that gauge! Hope that helps, its alot of work but worth it

My tattoo machine is not breaking contact, what could be the problem?
I am a beginner to tattooing, and for some reason my machine stopped working. I got a new set of coils, 11 wrap and put them on the machine. When I hook it up to the power supply and hit the foot switch, the armature bar moves down, but will not come back up until I take my foot off the switch. I do not know what the problem could be. Can anyone help?

Hi, i got a body suit and worked a few shops and many many of my friends are artist, you should be apprenticing under someone so they can go thru everything with you from your inks the different needles, and machine works and why, your gun should be known and looked at like eric clapton knows his favorite guitar. Im not being smart, just know the industry and the people in them and how they learned and became wonderful artist... Good luck ask another artist, they work thier own machines or know someone in the area that custom makes them so he would know too.. Or sorry she may know. You never know. Hey im a female with a body suit in a small town in nh...lololol.. Explain that... Good luck and keep learning and learning, the day you say you dont have anything to learn is the day you stop progressing. Good luck j

roadrunner tattoo machine how do I fix it?
I have a roadrunner tattoo machine, it used to work great, but but the capacitor pop , I bought that part I put it all together but it doesn't work , now it just clicks, do you think there's something wrong the coils? I use 10 wrap coils

admin answers:
It seems to me if you were a real artist and not a scratcher you would know how to work on your own machines, and how to do diagnostics on them...I'm only apprenticing and I can work on the machines as well as my mentor can.

Helen asks…
need help in tattoo machine?
I'm not from US so it's kind of difficult to but tattoo supplies from abroad. Someone i know tries to sell me a 12-wrapped coil Hildbrandt tattoo machine for $64 (converted). It's only the pure machine ,no tubes, tips, etc. I wonder if, including the delivery rate, the price is right or if it is overpriced.
Also, in case, i need help in knowing the advantages and disadvantages of 10-wrapped from 12-wrapped machines. Or which of which is good for both shading and lining. thank you in advance.

admin answers:
Twelve wraps are not needed, with really good machines. Eight wraps are plenty of layers for the coils, under normal use. I use Martini machines, that are handmade in Italy. They have iron frames, which make for a better magnetic field. For heavier use, like people who roof houses all day in the sun, I use a ten-wrap Micky Sharpz. A lot of junk machines are for sale with lots of aluminum wraps. Makes you wanna throw 'em at the wall. Take care.

Michael asks…
will heat cause tattoo gun coils to stop working?
I bought a tattoo gun and it was working I left it in a case in my car it was hot that day and the gun was hot. I let it cooloff before using it. It was working then just stopped. Did the heat damage the coils or could it be the cords and machine?

Yes...

Lizzie asks…
how is the gap adjusted on the tattoo machine.?
Hi Guys, Screaming J answered my question on where the gap is on a tattoo machine. Thanks Screaming J, that was a big help. Now im wondering if the gap gets adjusted when the armature bar is held down against the top of the coils, then measure the gap between the back of the spring and the tip of the contact screw.? Thanks for your help.

admin answers:
You should adjust machine while it is running losen set screw then adjust contact for a liner start out with the width of a dime then adjust out for a shader use a nickle and adjust out some machines are different on the amouunt of adjustment they have their own attitudes no one machine is like the other but just addjust tell the machines runs like you want them too

Maria asks…
I was wondering if someone could tell me how far the gap should be for a tattoo machine!?
For my liner, should i have a larger gap in between the armature bar and my coils with higher voltage? And for my shader, a shorter gap with a lower voltage? or am i backwards?

admin answers:
Hi Chris , well i set my machine up for lining with a gap of that of a ten pence and for shading a gap of a two pence ( english currency- dime or nickel american currency). Your machine should run slightly higher for lining around 6 volts and obviously slightly slower for shading. Listen to your machine when set and if it seems to be spitting then its too high , if it sounds too rattlely then its not getting enough power.
Hope this helps.

tattoo machine adjustment and tuning????
i have 2 snake yates machines with 10 wrap coils all shimed and ready to go what my problem is is 1 is a liner and 1 is a shader and i was told nickle and dime adjustments but when i do it im not getting solid results im getting clatter and out of tune. so do i do the nick and dime settings off the coils or off the points? or do i tune the machines so they run smooth or hard or what? this isnt like my time machine i have were i never have to do anything with it except make sure both machines are all tight and replace the springs and what not. anyways if u are gonna leave a negative responce to this about me not tattooing or some crap dont respond please! if u are gonna give me the advice im looking for ill be very greatful thanks

admin answers:
Im not going to leave you some dumb answer about dont do it but if you do not know the machine mechanics DO NOT MESS WITH THEM. It can be something as simple as the back spring being at a 5 degree angle originally and not being now (liek with the time machines). If you yourself are not experienced find someone who is, even if its just emailing artists on an ink forum and have them talk you through it. You will make more damage than help playing with it yourself if you are unsure. Theres a lot that can be wrong besides little adjustments and even if those are right there might be something besides that is wrong. Im lucky enough to work with a crew that used to build time machines so mechanics isnt a problem. I can give you some emails of a few in the know if you get really stuck. Gd Luck.
