Tattoo machine problem?
I bought a new machine, its a NSC J Frame Tattoo Machine TM-1214. Well I plugged it in and all it does is pull down the armature bar and not complete the circuit, So I looked it over compared to my other machine and figured out that it was missing a plastic washer, so I took one off my other machine and put it on the screw that's missing it on the new machine. Soo when I do that it works however it friggin shocks me, I have no idea whats going on. I messaged the company but they wont get back to me for a couple days. I like this machine its light. http://needlesupply.com/nsc-j-frame-tattoo-machine.html and I don't want to have to pay shipping to get it fixed assuming they will fix it. Can anyone give me any idea on what might be going wrong it would help. I checked for an open wire, nothing.

Sorry to say but you got ripped off. Those machines are all garbage and probably made in China by people who have never even seen a tattoo. I am surprised your co-workers at your studio let you get something like that, but maybe one of them will know what is wrong with it.

spray painting a tattoo machine's frame?
i have a chrome tattoo machine and want to pray paint the frame to another color. 1st question is will it be a dangerous thing to do? what spray paint can i use that will not peal off? please any recommendations would be helpful. this tattoo machine is mostly use for tattooing fake skin.

admin answers:
Im a graffiti artist who uses spray paint every day and i have basic knowledge of tattoo machines/ frames... It would most likely be wise if you didn't spray paint bronze or brass frames the softer metal frames would make it more susceptible to corrosion. Irons would be okay. Use a primer before the finish and a good brand of spray paint.

What tattoo machine does Kat Von D use?
What tattoo machine does Kat Von D use? Also, what frame?

admin answers:
She probably uses several machines most tattooers use at least 2 machines and sometimes even more one for large liners small liners small shaders large magnums and graywash
What machine someone uses isnt very relevent to how they tattoo as long as the parts are quality and the springs and tuning are appropriate to what you want to do you can make any machine run and tattoo like hers you just need the experiance to do it

anyone out there know where to find old Doc Martens ads? There is one with a tattoo machine on it I would like
The one in question I saw several years ago, and it was a tattoo machine sitting next to a Doc Marten boot with the caption "Only tattoos last longer". Being a tattoo artist that loves Docs, I would like to find the ad to get it framed, but have not been able to come across the ad anywhere.

admin answers:
I'd ask Doc Martens directly, especially if you plan to have the pic on commercial premises.

Tattoo machine building/casting?
I was just wondering a little bit about machine building. I wanted to know the dimensions of a machine like bottom of frame to spring deck and stuff like that any help is appreciated

admin answers:
Look up MachineGun Magazine. It was made by Eikon specifically for explaining how tattoo machines are run and set up. They created a machine called the Green Monster and sell it as a customizable kit online. As for casting, I would suggest some welding/metal working classes.

how do you sterilize a tattoo machine?
thought about stripping it down but that only does the frame???

admin answers:
If the tattoo machine has electrical components, you won't be able to steam sterilize it in an autoclave. It would have to be sterilized with gas (ethylene oxide) or hydrogen peroxide gas plasma (Sterrad), both of which are usually only found in hospitals. Most likely you don't need to sterilize the machine, only the needles and the attachments that come in contact with the customer or customer's bloodstream.

rotary tattoo machine power problem?
So... I just finished building a rotary tattoo machine. I've never made one before so this is ghetto prototype numero uno yo. I've made plenty of the coil machines, so I know there is no mechanical error. Umm... This isn't a ghetto rig made out of a pen okay? Think aluminum and brass frame cut on a mill. So the problem I'm having is that my power supply will not run the motor for more than momentary bursts. HOWEVER, when I run my PS at 1.5v and move up to 9 or whatever, it works fine. So far, no capacitor. Thats my best guess. So if I hook up a cap, of appropriate size of course, will thiz bich run without the weird burst spasms? If not, what's the problem?
uh no. You cannot add current with a converter. and the whole idea behind the power supply is conversion to DC from AC. Normally the coils turn the DC back to AC. For the motor I need, and already have, AC.
that last part was supposed to be DC.

admin answers:
Wow... Maybe you need a converter
